Air Conditioning can be very important not just in the home but especially in the work place. Higher working temperatures can affect people, equipment and processes. Humidity in a room can increase with the perspiration and breathing of its occupants. The higher moisture content in the air means that less heat can be lost by the occupants through evaporation and heat transfer between the air and body. With higher workplace temperatures concentration is more difficult, accidents are more likely and productivity is reduced. The air in such a room must be replaced with cooler, cleaner air. It is not just people in the work place who might require the benefits of cooling air conditioning. Many processes require the regulation of temperature. There are many industrial processes where this might be required but perhaps the most obvious example of this is in operating theatres where humidity and temperature are controlled to minimize the risk of patient infection. Different operations require different temperatures and so climate control is vital in an operating theatre. There are, however, many more common work processes that use air conditioning such as in the growing of certain plants or in food processing and preparation areas.
